Freedom or Bondage

Thought for the day: Examine what freedom means to you, then ask yourself, “what’s holding me hostage?”

Many things have held me hostage in the past: My beliefs, my anger, my judgments about self and others, my need to be understood, and my need to win the argument.

With age comes some wisdom and the recognition that we are the ones holding ourselves from our best lives.

Our judgments hold us hostage and keep us from being free to grow in wisdom.

Our need to be right holds us hostage, and keeps us from the freedom to learn.

Our anger holds us hostage and keeps us from the freedom to experience and express joy.

Our rigidity keeps us brittle as we lose flexibility and flow.

Our need to find a hero keeps us from taking personal responsibility.

Our victim mindset keeps us from finding our own power.

Our resentments keep us from living fully in the present.

Our dwelling on the past keeps us from building a vision of the future.

As we celebrate our independence and freedom, let’s go within, and release the outdated ideas, and toxic emotions that keep us from experiencing the freedom that is available now.
